Work Experience and Open Air Theatre by Julia Munro
This diary entry is written by Julia Munro from Lytham St Anne’s Technology and Performing Arts College who is on work experience here at Lytham Hall with the staff from the Heritage trust for the North West: This week saw our 3rd outdoor theatre performance, Macbeth, performed by the travelling theatre company Illyria! Tuesday evening presented us with almost perfect weather for the outstanding performance!
I’ve done a variety of jobs this week which have been tailored to my creative side and for my love of performing arts!
Creating feedback forms and informative posters were the first few tasks I was introduced to. The posters are to be used at the ‘Flower Power Plant Fair’ which will be held at Lytham Hall on the 27th July which promises to be another successful event! I’ve also assisted Julian Wilde with the preparation of this week’s outdoor theatre performance during which I was able to greet the 420 audience members with leaflets showing them the arrangements for the evening as well as handing out feedback forms which later proved that 95% of the sample audience had visited Lytham Hall before and a further half of the audience heard about the event through a Lytham Hall Leaflet. I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the evening.
As Lytham Hall is home to around 78 acres of park land, of course I couldn’t go the full week without being encouraged to help the garden volunteers rake the front lawn, but luckily enough the sun was shining so overall it was a pleasant experience.
During the week I spent any free time reading up about the brief history on the Hall, on Friday I was able to put my knowledge to the test when I was invited to assist some of the public through the Hall.
Overall, my experience working at the Hall this week has been extremely enjoyable and I would like to say a very large thank you to the staff there for accepting their first work experience pupil!
