Snowdrop competition result

Several thousand people have enjoyed the snowdrops at Lytham Hall again this year. Earlier in January, Megan Rowland, as a Lytham Hall volunteer, wrote to schools to invite all under 18s to join in with a snowdrop competition at Lytham Hall. People could choose to send in a photograph, or create art work based on snowdrops. This idea was welcomed by schools all through Lytham St Annes.

The entries were of high quality and Megan has been impressed. She said: “When I approached Lytham Hall to do a project, I’d never thought the results would be so good. Local businesses have been very kind in giving out awards to 13 lucky winners and the judges were only too happy to help.” Judging was carried out by local MP Mark Menzies, Lytham Hall staff and Megan herself.

The winners were invited to Lytham Hall to see their work on display and to receive their prizes, which were offered by YMCA, St Annes beach huts, Island cinema, Stephen Coles hair design, Costa coffee, Booths, ASDA, Sandcastle water park, Dominoes, Papa John's, Sainsbury’s and Pleasure Beach. Abigail Jukes won first prize in the Senior photograph category, James Hardaker won first prize in the Primary photography category and Lily-Ann Crowther won first prize in the art category.

Some of the results will be on show during the month of March, in the lobby of the tea room. “We have been delighted with the work Megan has done. She’s shown lots of initiative and creativity and the results are great. It’s made us see snowdrops in a completely new light, and believe me, after weeks of snowdrop walks, that’s quite extraordinary!” said Marianne Blaauboer, Activity Plan Officer at Lytham Hall.

The snowdrops at Lytham Hall are now over for the year, and in their place are daffodils, with vast quantities of bluebells already popping up, which is going to be very promising for Spring.
