Tickets go on sale for open air theatre

Tickets are now on sale from the office at Lytham Hall and five other local outlets for the summer season of open air plays.

Chapterhouse Theatre Company will launch the season and their own summer tour at Lytham Hall, Lancashire’s most popular venue, on Sunday 12 June at 6.00pm. The company will present Richard Main’s production of Emily Brontë’s stormy novel, Wuthering Heights, adapted for the stage by Laura Turner.

Fylde coast fans will then welcome the return of Illyria, after three acclaimed shows last summer, as director Oliver Gray brings his production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Lytham Hall at 7.30 pm on Friday 1 July.

Oliver Gray is looking forward to being part of the Lytham Hall bill once again.

“We love the enthusiasm of our loyal followers on the Lancashire coast”, he said, “and the news of our presentation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream early on a Sunday evening is meeting with much approval.”

Just nine days later on Sunday 1 July at 6 pm Illyria will be back with Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic operetta Ruddigore. This fifth musical production by the company will subsequently play at around 30 open air venues throughout the country

Last summer Lytham Hall’s attendance of over 500 for Jane Eyre was one of the largest Chapterhouse’s country-wide tour and the four-play season took the total donated to the Lytham Hall Appeal fund to £20,000 in the past six summers.

To complete the programme there’s a family summer treat as Illyria return on the afternoon of Bank Holiday Sunday 28 August at 4.00 pm with the Roald Dahl favourite Danny, the Champion of the World.

Julian Wilde who is organising the season of plays is delighted with the variety of the 2016 programme

“I think the balance of this summer’s programme will have a strong appeal. The smouldering chemistry between Cathy and Heathcliffe in Wuthering Heights is always fascinating and the Shakespeare, Gilbert and Sullivan and Roald Dahl make up a nicely contrasting trio. There’s something for everyone this summer.”
