Horseman's Sunday

For the past twenty years Horseman’s Sunday has been held at a variety of locations. This event has grown in strength and has attracted many owners with their horses (driven, shown, ridden and in-hand) as well as a “congregation” of horse lovers, friends and supporters. All have participated in the Service of readings, hymns, prayers, poetry and the “sermon on the mount”(on horseback), together with the Blessing of each horse.

Entry is free for all and each horse receives a commemorative rosette. Latterly, the occasion has included a competition for the best turned out horse, the winner receiving the silver Stirrup Cup.

The twenty-first celebration this year will be held at Lytham Hall on Sunday 18 September, with Lorraine Matta as President of the occasion, Mark Menzies MP as Patron, the Bishop of Burnley to give the address at the service and the Freckleton Brass Band to provide the music.

Horses are welcome from 1pm (horsebox parking and unloading at Ribble House opposite the Lytham Hall gatehouses), visitors to park at Lytham Hall’s paddock car park, with disabled parking in the stables car park. The ceremony will take place on the East lawn in front of the Hall, it will start at 2pm and will last about an hour. Some seats will be available.

We ask all attendants to be aware of the horses on site, keep dogs on leads throughout and do not approach the horses unless the riders give permission to do so.
