New path opened

A donation from the 2016 open air theatre season has significantly improved the pedestrian access to Lytham Hall.

A 300 yard brand new path, parallel with the single lane roadway leading to the Hall, has recently been opened following weeks of construction by teams of volunteers at a cost of £5000.

The costs of the materials and equipment hire have been met by the proceeds of last summer’s four play season which culminated in Lytham Hall drawing the biggest attendance in the country for the family show Danny, the Champion of the World.

Julian Wilde, organiser of the theatre season, feels that the path is a very considerable improvement for those approaching the Hall on foot.

“Walkers can now a delightful and peaceful walk through the Hall’s paddock, with extensive views over farmland nearby. The new path is completely separated from cars on the roadway which is very narrow with often flooded verges.

A 250 year old hazard has been eliminated. I am sure that all those volunteers who work so hard to put on each open air play will agree that it is a most worthwhile use of the money.”

The donation brings to £25,000 the sum given to the Hall from seven seasons of outdoor theatre. The 31st play in the series, Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, is next up on Sunday August 20 and Julian Wilde is hoping for a capacity attendance, together with another bumper turnout for the family show The Emperor’s New Clothes on August 27.
