GOLDSMITH’S GEM OF A FARCE

Lytham Hall will welcome the professional Gloucester-based Rain or Shine Theatre Company on Sunday 11 July with Oliver Goldsmith’s Restoration comedy of manners ‘She Stoops to Conquer’.

Their production will be the second of six plays to be staged at the as part of the 11th season of open air theatre at the Hall , a season now supported by 26 local businesses and organisations as Patrons. T

Pippa Meekings will play the lead as Kate Hardcastle whose search for a husband leads to mistaken identity, muddled manners and mayhem in one of Goldsmith’s most popular plays. She feels that the visit to Lytham Hall will be welcomed by actors and audience alike.

“After a horrible year for the entertainments industry, we will soon be able to make audiences smile again. The theatre industry has arguably been one of the most impacted sectors during the pandemic, with venues closed since March 2020. Rain or Shine are at last set to delight family audiences once again this summer with our production of Oliver Goldsmith’s classic comedy.”

Rain and Shine’s cast of seven come to Lytham as the most northerly venue on their three month summer tour which opens in Wantage, Oxfordshire on 24 June.

The Lytham Hall show will begin at 6.00 pm and finish at 8.30 pm. Gates will be open from 4.00 for playgoers who want to picnic before the show and the audience are asked to bring their own low-backed seating and suitable clothing.
